Hard to believe it, but ECCC 2019 is at the half way mark! Today was full of a lot more interviews that will be up as soon as possible!
Throughout the day Sam took some photos of a few excellent cosplayers, made one too many irresponsible purchases, and had a chance to speak with Norm Harper and Don Aguillo. If those names sound familiar it’s because they both worked on The Sequels! You can read more about those awesome books right here on the site. She also spoke with MK Reed from Delver, another book she reviewed. Her thoughts on Delver #2 will be up soon! She’s having a great time meeting some new favorite creators face to face.
One other highlight for Sam on Day 2 was the Tropetastic panel with CB Lee, Candice Montgomery, Margaret Owen, Taylor Brooke, Ray Utarnachitt, and Julia Ember. The panellists talked a lot about how tropes that may have a bad connotation could be reclaimed by writers if they choose to explore new power dynamics or character identities within common tropes. It was also a really enlightening look at how tropes can be loved & hated simultaneously depending on the reader’s experience.
Sam is looking forward to interviews with a few more authors tomorrow, including one of her all time favorites, Seanan McGuire.
While Sam was running around seeing the show floor and panels, as well as interviewing some terrific creators, Dan was doing the same.
He sat in on the Norm Harper interview, then ran to the convention floor for some pictures (check back early next week for our photo album), then ran off to a local coffee shop for interviews with Erica Henderson and Kyle Starks, followed by a interview with Khary Randolph. Look for those interviews in the next couple days.
After that he ran back to the convention center for a interview with Tim Seeley (who was just announced as the writer for a new Bloodshot series from Valiant).
He ended the day at the Image Comics Presents Kieron Gillen and Jaime McKelvie Spotlight, followed by the Funko Funkast Live! event, which is always a good way to end a busy day.
As for Saturday Sam and Dan have at least 7 interviews scheduled, so be sure to check back tomorrow for our day 3 recap of what promises to be a very busy day!
