MCM COMIC CON: 2020 shows officially cancelled for Birmingham, London, Manchester and Scotland

The Covid-19 comic convention massacre rolls on with the official announcement today confirming the cancellation of the MCM Comic Con shows throughout the summer, originally scheduled to be held in Birmingham, London, Manchester and Scotland.

The hints that the Birmingham show was off the table began last night when badge holders began receiving emails detailing refunds of their purchases. Now, MCM and their parent company ReedPop have updated their homepage with an official statement.

MCM shows beyond the September dates -including the headlining London show for October at the ExCel – are still currently in place but, of course, their status depends entirely on the developments worldwide dealing with the current pandemic.

We will keep an eye on what MCM will bring to fans in terms of any online content as the summer barrels on – heaven knows, pop culture aficionados will need some kind of respite this year, otherwise it’s going to be a complete and utter… FAN4ASTIC FOUR of a year. What, too much?

An update on MCM Comic Con and COVID-19

It is with a heavy heart that we today announce the cancellation of MCM Birmingham Comic Con June, MCM London Comic Con July, MCM Manchester Comic Con August, and MCM Scotland Comic Con September following the escalation of COVID-19 in the UK, Europe, and globally.

Our aim since the beginning has always been to put on the best events for you as possible, a space for you to gather together, be yourselves, and make memories with those who matter to you most. Unfortunately, after extensive discussions with all the relevant public health, local and national authorities we have taken the difficult decision not to go ahead with the events at this time.

Refunds for ticket holders, pre-paid photo and autographs, exhibitors, retailers and artists will all be automatically processed, with no further action needed on your part. We aim to have all refunds processed before the end of June and we appreciate your continued patience and understanding.

Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the COVID-19 virus, and to all of you, who look forward to our events year on year as a place of acceptance and safety. Rest assured, we are working hard to make sure that when safe to do so, we will return as a physical event, but until then we have plans to bring you all your comic con needs to the safety of your own homes, so stay tuned over the next few months!

Finally, we would like to say thank you for all the messages that we have received over the past few months. Your feedback has been invaluable in helping us determine next steps, and your patience and support during this challenging and unprecedented time whilst difficult decisions were being made has helped us every step of the way.
