NYCC 2019: Lion Forge announce New York Comic Con panel / signings

So much news is coming ahead of New York Comic Con next week, including news from Oni Press/Lion Forge.

With their queer Chinese-American fantasy romance title Mooncakes set to debut on October 14th, the co-creators Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu are set to appear at NYCC to promote the book. While they are at the show, they will be at the Oni/Lion Forge booth (#2028) each day for signings.

Oni/Lion Forge will also host a panel titled Uh Oh, It’s Magic: Supernatural Creator-Owned Comics on the Thursday of NYCC from 245pm-345pm in Room 1B03. The panelists will include Editor-in-Chief Sarah Gaydos, Senior editor Jasmine Amiri, as well as creators Daniel Barnes and D.J. Kirkland (Black Mage), Sarah Graley (Kim Reaper), and Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu (Mooncakes).

LION FORGE ANNOUNCES MOONCAKES OCTOBER BOOK LAUNCH EVENT AND NEW YORK COMIC CON APPEARANCES!

One of the Year’s Most Anticipated Graphic Novels to Debut Next Week with Multiple Appearances from Creators Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu 

PORTLAND, OR—Just ahead of the release of an all-new collection of the beloved queer Chinese-American fantasy romance from co-creators Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu, Lion Forge announces signings and events at next week’s New York Comic Con, and a launch event at New York’s Books of Wonder on October 14!

Mooncakes is a labor of love, and we are so excited to share it with the world. We set out to tell a story of reunion–two childhood crushes who find each other again, and find out whether their friendship could be something more” said its co-creators. “Nova and Tam’s love thrives in a rich, vibrant world of magic, demons, and elder witches, and their journey is a reflection of all we value as creators. It’s been a long journey, one that started here in New York, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support and kind words we’ve received along the way.”  

Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu will appear in the Oni/Lion Forge booth (#2028) with daily signings throughout the show. Their full New York Comic Con signing schedule can be found below.

Uh Oh, It’s Magic: Supernatural Creator-Owned Comics 

Oni and Lion Forge present a panel of some of the year’s most anticipated creator-owned comics and graphic novels just in time for the Season of the Witch! Join Editor-in-Chief Sarah Gaydos, Senior editor Jasmine Amiri, along with Daniel Barnes and D.J. Kirkland (Black Mage), Sarah Graley (Kim Reaper), and Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu (Mooncakes), for a “spirited discussion” on “the craft” of creating some of the most magical comics for teens and adults alike!

Off of the show floor, Books of Wonder will be hosting a tie-in event to New York Comic Con on Sunday, October 6 at 6pm. Details can be found below:

Just over a week later, the two will return to Books of Wonder to celebrate the book’s release on October 14 for a special launch event!

For one night only, they reunite to share their graphic novel MOONCAKES with the patrons of Books of Wonder.”

About the Authors: 

Suzanne Walker is a Chicago-based writer and editor. Her short fiction has been published in Clarkesworld, and she is a former contributor to Women Write About Comics. She has spoken at numerous conventions on a variety of topics, ranging from disability representation in sci-fi/fantasy to the importance of fair compensation for marginalized SFF creators. By day, she works as a copyeditor for medical journals. You can find her livetweeting movies everyone else saw in childhood and occasionally yelling about baseball ontwitter: @suzusaur.

Wendy Xu is a Brooklyn-based illustrator and comics artist.
