BOOM! Studios – news week August 26th

What an exciting week of news from BOOM! Studios it was.

The news week kicked off with the announcement that Kieron Gillen,  Dan Mora, Tamara Bonvillain and Ed Dukeshire ONCE & FUTURE which already gotten a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th print would be moved from a limited series to an ongoing one.

If the news about ONCE AND FUTURE wasn’t exciting enough, BOOM! also announced a brand new horror series coming from writer Jeremy Haun and artist Danny Luckert.

RED MOTHER is about a young woman who after surviving through an attack that takes her eye and the life of the man she loves, is cursed with the power of being able to see dangers that hide in plain sight but she must deal with the terrible consequences of those dangers.

The first issue of THE RED MOTHER will have 2 versions when it is released on December 11th, a main cover from Jeremy Haun, and a variant cover by Danny Luckert. 

The news week continued with a preview of the upcoming graphic novel crime story BURY THE LEDE from Gaby Dunn, Claire Roe, and Miquel Muerto.

The story was inspired by Dunn’s time as a young reporter working for The Boston Globe It’s about a young reporter who is searching for truth which leads her to an encounter with a potential killer. 

The graphic novel is set for release on October 2nd.

As the news week continued, a preview of the variant cover from Christian Ward for JIM HENSON’S THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE #1 was released.

The first issue of the 12 issue series from writer Nicole Andelfinger, and artist Matias Basla will tie into the upcoming Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and explore the world of Thra.

When the issue comes out on September 25th there will also be a cover version from Mona Finden as well as a variant connecting cover by Kelly & Nichole Matthews

On Thursday, BOOM! released a preview of the upcoming 8th issue of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER was released.

The title from writer Jordie Bellaire, and artist David López will see Buffy and Angel meet face to face for the first time, and delve into the origins of the Hellmouth.

Look for the issue when it’s released September 4th with main cover art by Marc Aspinall as well as variant covers by Kelly & Nichole Matthews, and Becca Carey.

On Friday of this week a preview of first issue for the cold war spy thriller from Jeff Loveness & Lisandro Estherren titled STRANGE SKIES OVER EAST BERLIN was released.

The series is set in the early 70s and sees the main character, an American spy named Herring in East Germany. His next mission puts him against an old foe as well as a new threat that may destroy all humanity.

Look for the first issue on October 2nd with either a main cover by Evan Cagle or a variant cover from Tonči Zonjić.

It’s a double dose of Angel news this week. Not only was a preview of the 8th issue of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER released, but a preview of ANGEL #5 was also sent out.

The 5th issue of the title from writer Bryan Edward Hill and artist Gleb Melnikov finds Angel having discovered that his mission is to gather a group to help save the world.

The issue will be released on September 25th with a main cover by Dan Panosian as well as a variant cover by Scott Buoncristiano and Troy Nixey.

Since the news week from BOOM! started out with ONCE & FUTURE it’s only fitting it ends with it as well.

The first issue of the series from the team of Kieron Gillen, Dan Mora, Tamara Bonvillain, and Ed Dukeshire has already been sent back for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th printings. This October it will get it’s 6th (and final printing) with a cover from Dan Mora.

Studios is proud to announceTHE RED MOTHER, an all-new original comic book series from acclaimed writer Jeremy Haun (The Beauty, The Realm) and artist Danny Luckert (Regression) about a young woman who survives a tragedy, only to be cursed with the ability to see the dangers that hide in plain sight and forced to deal with the terrible consequences.

Jeremy Haun is the creator and artist for The Realm from Image Comics. He is also the writer and occasional artist for acclaimed series The Beauty from Image Comics. Haun has worked on BatwomanConstantine, and Wolf Moon with DC Comics,RWBY with Viz Media, Iron Man: Civil War with Marvel Comics, The Darkness with Top Cow and more. 

“I’ve worked in nearly every genre out there–fantasy, sci-fi, superhero, crime. Somehow I keep coming back to horror. I love telling horror stories in comics. It works differently than just about any other medium. There are no jump scares. It’s all about building tension from page to page,” said writer Jeremy Haun. “THE RED MOTHER is me telling my favorite kind of story in the best possible way. I’m lucky to have Danny Luckert as my partner on this project. His art perfectly captures this story. Danny Luckert studied illustration and cartooning at the School of Visual Arts in NYC and upon graduating, Luckert immediately went to work in the comic book industry. He has worked on several miniseries with Red 5 Comics, such as Haunted Vol. 1 & 2 and Riptide Vol. 1 & 2. Luckert has also worked on self-published zombie graphic novel Tethered with writer/co-creator David Pretch, as well as the creator-owned comic Regression with writer Cullen Bunn and colorist Marie Enger from Image Comics.
