Class Of 2020: The Convention Collective Team look forward…

With the start of a New Year, we decided to put together a list of movies, TV shows, comic books, books, and events we are looking forward to this year.

To start it off here’s the list from the site’s owner Leonard Sultana (aka An Englishman In San Diego).

Tenet. Dune. Picard. Tenet. WandaVision. Black Widow. Tenet. The Stand. Dune. TENET!!”

Needless to say, he’s excited about the new Christopher Nolan movie, and can you blame him? Very little is known about the movie aside from can be gleaned from tínterwebs, that a secret agent must stop World War III through time travel. No big deal, then!

The other movies on Leonard’s list include the Denis Villeneuve adaptation of Frank Herbert’s DUNE, featuring the most stellar cast line-up in recent memory – featuring the likes of Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem… phew!! – and the first movie installment from the next Phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, BLACK WIDOW, starring Scarlett Johansson as the titular spy, and introducing David Harbour, Rachel Weisz and star-on-the-rise Florence Pugh to the world of the MCU.

On the TV front, he’s looking forward to three different series that will debut on streaming services, speaking volumes about how viewing habits have evolved in recent years. Coming to CBS’ All Access service is the new STAR TREK: PICARD series starring Patrick Stewart reprising the title role, and THE STAND mini-series, based on the epic Stephen King doorstop of the same name and featuring quite the ensemble – James Marsden, Amber Heard, Greg Kinnear, Whoopi Goldberg, Owen Teague, Marilyn Manson, and Alexander Skarsgård have all been announced as starring. And then Leonard’s viewing of the latest MCU installments continues with WANDAVISION series set to be released on Disney+ later this year – this one could be a real gamechanger, seeing as we could be seeing the introduction of a darker, more intricate take on the Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olson, than we’ve seen so far.

Next up are LeeAnn D’s picks:

She’s looking forward to the following TV series: The Boys Season 2, The Expanse Season 5, WandaVision, Falcon & Winter Soldier, The Mandalorian Season 2, as well as the second season of What We Do in the Shadows, and Doctor Who’s 12th series which kicked off this past week.

Her movie list includes a few that Leonard also mentioned in Tenet, Black Widow, and Dune but also include the the Sam Mendes’ World War I movie 1917, the next chapter in the Wonder Woman series with Wonder Woman 1984, and Lin-Manuel Miranda produced (but not starring) musical In The Heights.

In books the one she’s looking forward include to the ninth book from The Expanse Series from James S.A. Corey, and NK Jemisin’s ‘The City We Became’.

The comic books she’s looking forward to include ‘Die’, from Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans, ‘Once and Future’ from Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora , ‘Deadly Class’ from Rick Remender and Wesley Craig, ‘Death or Glory’ from Rick Remender and Bengal, as well as ‘Crowded’ by Christopher Sebela, Ro Stein & Ted Brandt, and lastly Jamie McKelvie’s ‘The Killing Horizon’.

Sam Beard chimed in with her picks, and they include Book 4 of The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson, Book 4 of The Bone Season series by Samantha Shannon, as well as the live action Mulan movie. She’s also excited for her first major convention of the year, Emerald City Comic Con.

She’s also looking forward to Netflix’s REBECCA, which is an adaptation of the Daphne du Maurier’s novel from director Ben Wheatley and starring Lily James and Armie Hammer. The movie “follows a newly-married young woman (Lily James) who finds herself battling the shadow of her husband’s (Armie Hammer) dead first wife, the mysterious Rebecca.”

Jeffrey Venture‘s list of things he’s looking forward to in 2020 include the Marvel’s Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren comic as well as the next seasons of My Hero Academia, She-Ra and The Princesses of Power, and Steven Universe. For movies he is also looking forward to the Black Widow and Wonder Woman 1984 movies as well as the next chapter in the Bad Boys series Bad Boys for Life. The Cyberpunk 2077 video game which stars Keanu Reeves is also on his list.

Alanah’s list includes the upcoming Hunters on Amazon Prime Video from Executive Producer Jordan Peele, and starring Al Pacino. all the live action MCU releases set for 2020 (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and WandaVision on Disney+, and the theatrical releases of Black Widow and The Eternals).

She is also excited for other people to finally see 1917 (read her review here). The video games she’s excited for include the remake of the classic Final Fantasy 7, and the upcoming Skywalker Saga from LEGO.

Our Senior Correspondent, Dan‘s list includes a lot of the above mentioned releases (the MCU live action releases, Mandalorian season 2, The Boys season 2, Tenet, Picard, Wonder Woman 1984).

The other movies on his list include DC’s Birds of Prey movie (he’s hesitantly optimistic about it), the Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel based on the Valiant comic of the same name, The New Mutants (which has a new trailer due out soon), Free Guy starring Ryan Reynolds, Ghostbusters: Afterlife (especially since most of the original cast will be in it), and Bill & Ted Face the Music.

On the small screen the shows he’s anxiously awaiting include the next seasons of Schitt’s Creek, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Better Call Saul, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as DC Universe’s Stargirl (which will also air on the CW Network) and Season 2 of Doom Patrol.
