INVINCIBLE Episode 8 review”Where I Really Come From” – Ouch

In the leadup to the finale, Omni-Man laid waste to everything thrown at him until Mark realized he wasn’t such a nice guy after all. This episode finally paid off on the season long march to an epic father-son confrontation. The episode is strong, but in some ways it was less stellar than the prior installment.

The first half of the episode is basically one long mega fight scene. While it had some nice action (nice probably isn’t the right word when heads are exploding), it kind of felt like some of the fights in a DC Cinematic Universe – a lot of the same punching people so hard they bust through buildings. The lengthy fight in the last episode did a better job of increasing tension and intensity.

The second half of the episode was where things really began to falter. A musical montage of people’s reaction to the big fight that seemed out of place and took a lot of the momentum out of the story. I also felt this sequence was a rare misstep in soundtrack choice. The final minutes didn’t really tie anything up with this episode, but rather pivoted to glimpses of what we will see in future episodes. It was a fun glimpse into the future, but not necessarily a satisfying way to end what has been a perfectly plotted series so far.

If you’ve enjoyed INVINCIBLE, you will probably like this episode even if it fails to match the quality of its predecessors. It was solid, it just lacked the ‘wow’ factor that some of the other installments had. As the title screen indicates, the bloody gore in this episode is really high (man, Omni-Man is a jerk!), and there seemed to be more curse words as well, easily warranting some parental discretion.
