I haven’t actually seen anything of the Dark Crystal movies / shows / comics until now, and I’ve got to tell you I can’t wait to read more of this world.

The first issue of Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a great place to start off in this vast fantasy world, sadly it’s only the first of a four issue series. But, it starts off intriguing enough with a grand quest to find a magical weapon that is the only possible way to defeat oncoming enemies. The Dual Glaive is such a magical weapon, that it is only known of through a story told in a song. Our hero is Ordon, a fierce warrior and leader of the clan who volunteers to find the Dual Glaive and leave his village and wife, Shoni, behind so that he can help save them with this all powerful weapon.

Fara, the clan leader’s daughter, and one day ruler herself, wants to go on the journey too. But, as you can guess the resounding response was a big no. Because as her mother (who is the leader of the clan) puts it, she is too precious to lose and is still untrained in the ways of the warrior. This leads to her sneaking onto Ordon’s transportation which is some type of long legged animal.

Along with the masterful storytelling, the artwork is beautiful to see unfold as the story goes on. I don’t think I can say enough of how much I want to know more about this series, and how this journey for The Dual Glaive goes for young Fara and skilled Ordon.

Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance #1 is now available.
