This was an insane episode this week, mountains of information and backstory revealed and we are now only down to one episode left! Who knew the end would come so soon and for us to be this invested in Marc and Steven.
When the epsiode from last week ended we saw Steven and Marc stuck in a mental hospital that was full of clues and a hippo goddess. Picking up from there, we finally get to see who the owner of the body is and why the other personality was created.
Oh boy, oh boy. I can’t believe I was right! Everything did have to do with Marc/Steven’s mom, along with a few other traumatic things happening all around the same time, causing the mental split personalities. The only thing not confirmed was the third personality, but that could come next episode to help Marc out.
I do have to say all the references to Egyptian mythology are pretty well done when talking about the path to the afterlife and the other things that await someone who has died. I am also loving the visual effects, from the night sky to the hippo goddess, Taweret, and of course sets designed for the show (the doctor’s office is my favorite to see, as a replica of the ancient tomb in all white).
Also, can we once again talk about how amazing Oscar Isaac’s acting is?! Because watching him be two completely different personalities to a single person with mental health issues is a bit of a mind flip. It’s as if I am watching two completely different people who look very similar acting all this out, and both are pulling out my heart strings! I mean baby boy Steven is so sweet and shy and just all around nervous. Marc is this rugged man’s man who can take charge and get a job done. Both are more than this obviously, but you get my gist. There is a lot of great talent being shown here, and I think it’s being true to the comics (in all the ways that it can).
Big concern I have going into the next and final episode next week is, how is there enough of an episode to bring back Khonshu, save Marc and hopefully Steven and of course stop the bad guys? There is just too much to be done and said for this series to end after this one season, but hopefully everything needed will be resolved and we’ll get a movie (and another season?) after this. Catch up now and binge watch all five episodes that are currently out now and get ready to tune in to next Wednesday’s final episode of Moon Knight season 1 on Disney+!
