I was lucky enough to be asked by Tripwire Magazine‘s EIC Joel Meadows to participate in this years Portsmouth Comic Con, the second year for the show held at the historic Portsmouth Guildhall over the Bank Holiday Weekend of Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May 2019. Joel, Contributing Editor Andrew Colman and the entire Guildhall team put on quite the celebration of comics and pop culture, filling every available square inch of space with artists alleys, vendors, retailers, exhibitions and panels – it was quite the experience!
Roy Thomas has had one of the most fascinating and impressive careers in comics, a writer and editor who served as the successor to Stan Lee as Editor-In-Chief at Marvel Comics in 1972, going on to write and launch hugely successful books such as THE DEFENDERS and WHAT IF? The work that Thomas has done over the years has shaped not only mainstream comics for generations past but which reverberations can be felt on comic racks today.
Here, Tripwire Contributing Editor Andrew Colman talks to Roy about his career, his experiences with some of the biggest names in comics and where he feels comics lay in today’s cultural landscape…
