MERRY CHRISTMAS, KRAMPUS book coming in 2019

While wandering around the Anaheim Convention Center a few weeks for DesignerCon, I stumbled across (well, more like was summoned to by Krampus) a booth for a company that was showing off creations for their book MERRY CHRISTMAS, KRAMPUS.

What makes this book stand out from a lot of other books about Krampus different, is the fact that all the pictures in the book are photographs of the puppets that were created by the various artists who are working on it.

The book is set for a release by December of 2019, but can now be pre-ordered through their Kickstarter.

Full press release about the book is below. Images below (as well as header picture) are courtesy of their press release.

Merry Christmas, Krampus

A Children’s Book

Merry Christmas, Krampus is anindependently published children’s book that tells the story of legendaryChristmastime creature Krampus and how one child from Santa’s Naughty Listteaches him that all “bad” children have some good in them.

While the majority ofchildren’s picture books use either hand-drawn or computer illustrations, Merry Christmas, Krampus will be toldthrough beautifully staged still photographs featuring handcrafted puppets andsets. Once the images are captured, each posable puppet will be enhanced with adigitally mapped two-dimensional, line-drawn face. The final effect will givethe puppets a wide range of playful expressions.

Our creative team membersare Artie Esposito, Andrea Coleman, Sean Johnson and Patrick Johnson. We areprofessional designers, painters, puppet builders and puppeteers. Collectively,we have worked for Disney Animation, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, Nickelodeon,Disney Imagineering and The Muppets Studio on such projects as Kidding, TheDark Crystal: Age of Resistance, The Jungle Book and the Pee-wee Herman Show.

Santa’s horned counterpart,Krampus, spends the year mining coal and gathering sticks to give to the naughtyboys and girls. But every December, Santa prevents Krampus from doing his jobbecause Santa believes all children deserve toys at Christmas. This year,Krampus has had enough. He pushes Santa out of the sleigh and embarks on anadventure to put a piece of coal in every stocking.

On his first stop, Krampus encountersRandy Ruckus, who is the worst kid on the planet. Randy jumps into the sleighand makes Krampus’ night a nightmare. But by the end, Randy has performed severalgood deeds, showing Krampus that all “bad” children have some good in them, andeveryone deserves a second chance.

Every environment, character, chair and cup will need to be created by hand. We’ll need to construct a widerange of model sets, including Santa’s workshop, Randy’s house and Krampus’cave. Inaddition, we will be hiring a professional lighting designer and photographerto capture the images that will appear in the finished book.

Our goal is to have MerryChristmas, Krampus printed and under your tree by Christmas 2019, just in timefor you to begin a new holiday tradition.
