Sera and The Royal Stars #2 review: One Hell of an Entrance

Writer: Jon Tseui Artist: Audrey Mok Colorist: Raul Angulo Letterer: Jim Campbell

Thanks to Vault Comics for providing a copy for review!

Picking right up where we left off with the first issue, Sera and Old Bull as she calls him, are facing off against some type of monster warriors. Good thing is, they win and end up heading back the way Sera had come to look for more of the royal stars. Thing is, apparently they are on a time limit. They need to find all of the royal stars, free them from their physical forms all before the lights in the sky go out (I think they’re talking of the light that stars have). As they are traveling into Sera’s kingdom, they are ambushed by her cousin. Her uncle and his forces have taken the throne and kingdom from Sera’s father.

As Sera and Old Bull are taken to her uncle, he shows off that he has both her sister and father as his prisoners, with no intention of letting them go. He also gloats that her brother had met his end on the battlefield trying to stop him, reasonably Sera is upset. The next star they were looking for has followed them in her physical form (a scorpion), to the palace. As the scorpion crawls up the back of the new kings throne, it seems that she senses Sera’s destress.

As she makes it to the top, dark red smoke appears and she is released. The star scorpion hands over the new king with her spear to his neck with the warning “Let them go or yours will be the shortest reign of any kingdom” (she’s referring to Sera’s father and sister). I’m not sure how she was released, maybe the close proximity to Sera and feeling her emotions so strongly enabled the star to be in her current form, I have no idea. But, I will say, that’s one hell of an entrance. Surprised by this sudden appearance, her uncle still will not let go of them. Although, he will grant Sera and the two stars with her safe passage through the kingdom if they will get the farms to bloom again. You have to hand it to the guy, even faced with celestial beings he still denies them and asks for a gift.

No surprise, old Bull  and Sera are able to get the farms to bloom. After seeing two of the royal stars, Sera’s family finally believe her and her late mother about everything now. As they are leaving the kingdom, one of the people who advised her father slips her a note. Saying that a boat and a certain person will be there waiting for their arrival.

This second issue did not have as much information going on, but still had a lot of plot happening. I still have so many questions that I hope get answered soon!

If you missed my review of the first issue, you can read it here.
