July 25th was the third day proper of San Diego Comic-Con’s ‘virtual convention’ – SDCC@HOME, running over the days of what would have been the physical convention (Thursday 23rd – Sunday 26th July; Preview Night, Wednesday 22nd July 2020) – and it’s the day that we traditionally see the big guns roll out with their presentations. And oh boy, two big guns in particular did not disappoint.
The Comic-Con panel for BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC, the latest installment in the pop culture straddling franchise, according to the attendance stats on the CCI Sched page, was easily the most eagerly anticipated panel of the entire weekend. Completely understandable, of course, as the movie has developed a massive following since the first BILL & TED… film was released in cinemas, back in February 1989, quickly establishing its language and mannerisms into the cultural lexicon
Dedicated B&T fan Kevin Smith has often referenced the duo as being in the DNA of his own creations, Jay and Silent Bob, so it was only fitting that the acclaimed writer-director moderated this panel, a session that featured not only the boys themselves, Keanu Reeves (‘Ted ‘’Theodore’’ Logan’) and Alex Winter (‘Bill S. Preston, Esq.’). The panel also included returning cast member William Sadler, who will be reprising his role as Death, as well as new cast additions Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine (who play Bill & Ted’s daughters Theodora “Thea”/”Little Ted” Preston and Wilhelmina “Billie”/”Little Bill” Logan respectively). Rounding off the special guests were Dean Parisot (director), and Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon (screenwriters).
During the panel – which was easily one of the slickest and best-edited ones by far – Kevin talked with the cast about the movie, how it came to be, and what it was like for Keanu and Alex to reprise their legendary roles.
BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC will be released on demand and in theaters on September 1, 2020.
The entire panel can be streamed via Comic-Con’s YouTube channel, we’ve included it in below for convenience.
Official synopsis and details on the movie are below courtesy of their press release.
