San Diego Comic-Con off-sites! They have become one of the biggest elements of the whole she-bang, adding to the mythos of ‘the pop culture convention that doesn’t take place at the San Diego Convention Center, it’s the pop culture convention that takes place in San Diego, entire’. And this year, while one of the main stays of that landscape had decided to part ways with the norm (Fox/FX, abandoning its regular post in the green in front of the Hilton Bayfront), another production titan returns to its pitch in the green outside the ‘other Hilton’, the Gaslamp: Disney Entertainment Television.
Disney on the small screen, which of course is made up of plenty of disparate sub-divisions, has rocked up to the convention (Thurs 23rd-Sun 26th July; Preview Night Weds 22nd July) with Disney Television, showcasing one of its tentpole productions PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS – Season 3 of which will be coming to screens later this year, hence the promo, obvs – and Hulu has its ANIMAYHEM umbrella, taking on board FUTURAMA, KING OF THE HILL, and more.
Skirts and sandals are, of course, very chic at the moment so expect the PERCY JACKSON activation to draw in the crowds like the Sirens themselves. The off-site opens today at 09:30am PT so no doubt, as this writer posts, paint is still being applied and the finishing touched being hammered into place. And there was probably a line that formed last night – this is SDCC, after all.
