D23 EXPO: Marvel announces ‘fan experiences’ and Pavilion updates for Anaheim event

Blimey, you blink and another massive convention is just around the corner. It has only been days since the door was closed on another incredible San Diego Comic-Con but there’s no rest for the wicked, so they say, and the Marvel team will be moving their carnival tent up the coast to Anaheim in just a few short weeks for the epic D23 Expo to be held over the weekend of Friday 23rd-Sunday 25th August 2019 at the Starfleet Headquart… sorry, the Anaheim Convention Center.

The last time Marvel presented at D23 was at the 2017 edition of the show, shortly after the buyout deal, folding the publisher under the Disney umbrella. And it was slightly reflected in the naivety of Disney about just how excited fans were going to be about seeing updates about BLACK PANTHER, THOR: RAGNAROK and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR that the booth on the Exhibition Floor wasn’t exactly the biggest or easily maneuverable.

Well, let it not be said that Disney doesn’t learn from its mistakes (or ignores the fact that the Marvel movies are now outgrossing their own in-house efforts!) – this year will see not a booth, oh no, but an entire Pavillion, no less, hosting signings, presentations, games, stuff and nonsense from the moment the doors open. (Literally. In 2017 when we attended, we headed straight to the booth and got a huge free Captain America figure for our troubles, which played havoc with our return journey luggage packing!)

This year, fans can take part in an AVENGERS: ENDGAME ‘video experience’ (no doubt mentioning once or twice the recent announcement that ENDGAME has no surpassed James Cameron‘s AVATAR as the highest-grossing film of all time), as well as seeing costumes and props from the gamut of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Plus you’ve got all of the panels that are now officially lined up and, if you’re a Marvel fan, it’s safe to say you are pretty much made up for the weekend. We will also have ‘boots on the ground’ at the show and, here at The Convention Collective, we’ll try and keep you abreast of news and updates from the show as it progresses.

From the D23 Expo Press Release:

“With only one month left until Disney’s highly anticipated D23 Expo in Anaheim on August 23–25, Marvel announced a thrilling show floor lineup that includes guest appearances and panels, stage events, exclusive merchandise, and more!

Inside the Marvel Studios Pavilion on the show floor, fans can step inside the action of Avengers: Endgame via a D23 Expo-exclusive video experience, and tour the costume gallery to see costumes worn by characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Throughout the weekend, Marvel Studios will host panel conversations with filmmakers and artists, as well as special talent signings inside the Pavilion. Fans can test their encyclopedic knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with daily trivia games for prizes.

Showcasing an array of new experiences for guests around the world to enjoy for years to come, the Disney Parks “Imagining Tomorrow, Today” Pavilion will give fans a unique look at Tony Stark’s latest plans to recruit guests to join alongside the Avengers in fully immersive areas filled with action and adventure in Hong Kong, Paris, and California.
