EM-CON 2020: July event ‘postponed’ in shadow of pandemic fears

This one hurts: we have been fans and supporters of the EM-Con convention brand since its inception, seeing its growth and development over the years (even with Yours Truly taking part in a couple of shows as a panel host). So, to hear that it is another event falling to the hammer blow of Coronavirus sweeping the globe, it’s disheartening – even if said announcement tries to remain optimistic about the future of the shows, next year.

Organiser Lee Wallis has taken to Facebook to update fans and attendees about the decision to postpone the event, originally scheduled for Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July at the Nottingham Motorpoint Arena, now transposed to the first weekend in May 2021.

Wallis will be taking to Facebook Live this evening at 8pm GMT to tackle any questions from the crowd – we’ll be following along for major developments…

EM-Con Official Announcement

We are sad to announce that EM-Con 2020 has to be postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus situation. This is a decision which has not been taken lightly, but with lockdown rules impacting all large events for the foreseeable future, holding an event in 2020 will not be possible. When EM-Con started in 2014 we had no idea that EM-Con would be so popular, 6 years on we are hugely appreciative of all the support everyone
has shown and this is why we are already working hard towards our next event. We have secured the weekend May 1st and 2nd for our 2021 show and will spend this extra time working to ensure the next EM-Con is our best yet.

If you’ve already purchased a ticket for this year’s event, it will be valid for 2021, ensuring there will be no hassle with rebooking; you can relax as your entry next year is already covered by this year’s ticket. Keeping your ticket will ensure that EM-Con can continue in bringing in the biggest stars of TV and Film and will help with the longevity of the event.

As well as those that have already purchased a ticket for the now postponed event, you will be given a 30% discount on entry tickets for 2022, This offer is for those that retain their tickets for May 2021. (Your email that you used in purchasing is what will be used to email you this offer for 2022)

Traders that have also booked in and keep their booking will also be given a 30% discount for 2022. (Your email that you used in purchasing is what will be used to email you this offer for 2022)

Any guest who is unable to attend the new date in 2021 will automatically be refunded by Gigantic, other guests who will be attending will have their photoshoot and autograph tickets carried over unless correspondence is received prior to August 1st 2020. (Guests will be confirmed on the website over the coming weeks, many of which have already confirmed
for the new date)

Any questions regarding your order should be directed to the place of purchase, either The Motorpoint Arena or Gigantic Tickets.

While we’re very disappointed that EM-Con has had to be postponed, the bigger picture is that this is a tragic and extraordinary time and the safety of attendees remains the biggest priority. We’ve already begun the process of guest booking and event planning and will be working hard to ensure EM-Con 2021 is something to look forward to when we reach the other side of this.

Stay safe, look after yourselves and each other, and we’ll see you in 2021.
