Stage, lights, and cue the music!!!

Finally making it into the cosplay cabaret and being able to walk away without my voice was the best trade off. I would have given up my soul to watch this. I have been to the few 18+ events held at the conventions I have gone to, and sadly there are less and less every year. I was so excited for this event leading up to Kumoricon, I had heard about it happening months before the actual convention. I even thought about joining in, I definitely will next year because I’ve never felt so disappointed in not joining in.

Anyway, the Cosplay Cabaret is a show hosted by the Amai Suppai Maid Cafe, taking place in a huge main stage of the Kumoricon on Saturday night. To say the least the room was packed full of con goers, and everyone was cheering the performers on the whole night. Unfortunately, I’m not able to share any photos from the show. There was no filming or photos allowed, as expected of a 18+ event. But I can give some pretty great and wild descriptions of what went on.

There were a few walk-ons, they came out on stage strutting their stuff and did a few turns as well as booty shakes. The majority was all about dancing and some skits, all of it was very fun. There were so many wow moments, but one of the ones that really stood out to me was when a cosplayer came out as Doctor Eggman from Sonic the Hedgehog. They slayed, and I mean slayed. It was so much fun to watch and everyone in the audience was cheering and laughing like crazy. The night just got better as more and more cosplayers made their way to the stage.

All the performers picked great songs to play up their dancing to the crowd, and the crowd was wild. I have not heard screaming constantly like that before at any performance or event I have been to in my life. The few hours that the cabaret took place went by so fast, and by the end had the audience craving for more! The maid group that was hosting the show and doing all the announcing and half time shows (skits and dancing), did a great job. The maid group in question was the Amai Suppai Maid Cafe, who are currently working on opening up a permanent location in Portland, Oregon.

The group I was with was guzzling down water and energy drinks to keep our voices going strong for when it was our friends turn to go up. There were four I was cheering on and screaming my lungs out for, and I am so proud and amazed by my friends for going up there and rocking it! It was especially great to see more male cosplayers go on stage, there was a character from Dragon Ball. He had some of the loudest yells I have heard for anyone, and lots of men in the back were cheering him on too (he did a great walk on flexing his muscles for everyone). There was also another male cosplayer everyone was talking about, who cosplayed a character from Naruto and was dancing to “Daddy’s home” on stage. Talk about a great song pick (there was only one other song choice that beat this one hands down, which was “Mamushi”). He had the audience eating out of his hand, and ended up going on stage twice (the first time was a slight mix up with his music, so he only did a walk on the first go around). But, I’m happy that he got to do his full performance (I bet everyone watching in the audience was also happy by this as well, I mean people were going rabid for him).

The Cosplay Cabaret was an amazing success, every single cosplay performer did such a good job and all their outfits slayed! I really hope we get to see this type of event at more conventions in this area, and obviously again at Kumoricon 2025. This was also one of the best events held at a Kumoricon, and any other convention I have been to this year. I’m pretty in love with it and am already pushing to see more events in the 18+ section to be promoted at conventions. They are a huge hit and we need more of them!
