What happens when hundreds of Spider-Men take over New York Comic Con (Javits Center NYC, Thurs 8th-Sun 11th October)? On the Thursday of the convention, Jazwares and Disney Consumer Products are hoping to find out as they organise a Guinness World Records attempt for the ‘Largest Gathering Of People Dressed As Spider-Man’!
The goal is to beat the current record of 685 participants – that’s a lofty bar to clear but, if there’s anywhere that will have a fair amount of Spideys in attendance, of all shapes, colours, genders and sizes, it’s New York Comic Con. As a bit of an incentive for those that won’t be bringing their own leotards to the Big Apple, Jazwares will be handing out complimentary Spider-Man costumes while supplies last and, obviously, participants can bring their own as long as they meet the official guidelines.
There’s also an added perk for those joining the attempt: participants will receive a free digital movie code for Spider-Man: Brand New Day while supplies last, courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, in celebration of the film being available to watch at home. That’s a cheeky little carrot, very generous indeed.
The sea of Spider-Men will gather at the NYCC Main Stage around 8 PM ET, where an official Guinness World Records adjudicator will be on-site to determine whether fans have officially shattered the record. Best of luck to all web-slingers taking part and be wary of J. Jonah Jameson’s about – because when we’re all Spider-Man, we’re all Amazing and Spectacular.
