TCC Senior Editor Dan Berry is getting nicely back into the swing of attending comic conventions again – and isn’t it handy that there just so happened to be the return of one of his favourites, relatively close to him, recently? Here, Dan talks about his travels to take in the sights, the sounds, nay the smells of DesignerCon…
One of my favorite conventions every year — and usually my last one of the year — is DesignerCon, a celebration of everything creative in the world of pop culture, from beautifully rendered art, brilliantly conceived toys and games and so much more.
This year’s con was no exception, and it was good to be back at the Anaheim Convention Center with lots of creative types, setting up their stalls over a packed weekend from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th November, COVID may have dampened peoples spirits over the past twenty months but the show was determined to come back with a bang — and bang it did!
The show took over Halls C and D at the Center from Friday night from their usual VIP preview all the way through until Sunday, seeing the usual exhilarating booths from vendors and manufacturers including the likes of DKE Toys, XLARGE, Mighty Jaxx, MEDICOM, Pop Mart, MONDO, and many more, showing off their new wares to the public.
Some of my personal highlights were the art show and the various panels — most notably the Storyboard Duel: Lincoln Design Co. & Sony Pictures Animation — which featured artists from both companies creating storyboards on the spot in front of an audience.
As always, I can’t wait to go back to Anaheim for DesignerCon 2022 which is scheduled for November 18th-22nd next year, again at the Anaheim Convention Center.
