Sam’s Quick Guide to the Bookish Side of SDCC

Hello, my name is Samantha Beard and you may have read my comics reviews, here on Sandbox; however, I have to admit, it’s not my main passion – that’s books, off all kinds, Although 2019 is my seventh San Diego Comic-Con, I have only engaged with the bookish side of the convention for two years. People are often surprised to see the stacks of free books I take home, so I wanted to share some of the basics of how to find and collect new titles at SDCC…

Where to Find Books!

The major sources are the publishing booths, here is the run down of booths with giveaways:

  1. Fierce Reads booth #2800
  2. Penguin booth #1515
  3. Abrams booth #1216
  4. Simon & Schuster booth #1128
  5. The NOVL booth #1116
  6. Quirk Books booth #1636
  7. TOR Books booth #2701

There are other locations to purchase books and a few other giveaways happening, but these are the primary locations. Check out the schedules for all the details.

“Sam, this sounds too good to be true, are these books really free?”

Yes! 100% free advanced copies of upcoming titles. This means that not only are you getting books for $0.00, but you’re also getting books that the rest of the world won’t be able to read for weeks or months. Because these books are free, it is HIGHLY frowned upon to sell them in any way shape or form. It’s just not cool. Donate them to your local Little Free Library, or to a school library if you decide you no longer want the book.

Who can get these magical free books?

Anyone attending the convention can try their luck at obtaining these books. They are limited, and they go quickly so if you want one, check-in with the booth workers for line start times.

Enjoy the book hunt, and happy reading!!
