San Diego is home to quite a few conventions, but every year one of the ones I always look forward to is Who Con.
This years event takes place October 4th through the 6th, and will once again be at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel, and the guest list and announcements for the show are starting to roll out.
The theme for this year’s event is “WHOdunnit?”, and the convention will have a mystery based theme.
From their official release: “Whodunnit? Who Done It? WHO Done it! This year’s convention theme is “WHOdunnit?” – a Whovian spin on that singular phrase that spawned a multitude of ideas and personalities! Hercule Poirot. Nick and Nora Charles. Charlie Chan. Scooby Doo! A myriad of mystery seekers. San Diego Who Con 4 invites you to join us at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel on Aero Drive for a weekend adventure into the mysteries of Doctor Who. Come as your favorite Doctor. Come as your favorite detective. Come as yourself. Just come! You’ll have a thrillingly good time!”
While not many guests have been announced yet (probably because it’s about 6 months away), they have announced that Creator, producer, and writer of the “Doctor Puppet” Alisa Stern will be at the show.
Stern’s credits include writing and animating a scene for the BBC America documentary Doctor Who: Earth Conquest. The documentary was released as part of the Series 8 DVD box set and both Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman lent their voices to the documentary.
We can’t wait to hear what other guests this show brings in since in the past they’ve brought in William Morgan Sheppard, Eric Roberts (who played The Master in the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie), and tons of other notable names who have either worked on the show, or are quite known to the massive Whovian community.
Once again the show will have a vender room, as well as a charity auction to benefit the Pegasus Rising Project (The Pegasus Rising Project is a small all-volunteer group that makes rescued horses available as therapy animals to returning U.S. military veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) to help with healing and social reintegration).

A “Doctor Puppet” Mystery
SAN DIEGO, CA – SD Who Con is thrilled to announcement that creator, producer, and writer of the “Doctor Puppet” Alisa Stern will be a guest at our 2019 “Who Dunnit?” convention. SD Who Con will take place October 4-6, 2019 at the Four Points Sheraton on Aero Drive in San Diego.
Stern is well known by those in the Doctor Who community for her stop motion animation series featuring everyone’s beloved Doctor on You Tube. In August 2014, Stern was invited to script and animate a scene for the BBC America documentary Doctor Who: Earth Conquest. The documentary featured the voices of Peter Capaldi (the 12th Doctor) and Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald), who played themselves as tourists visiting New York. The documentary is a part of the Series 8 DVD boxset of Doctor Who.
The SD Who Con started in 2016 as San Diego’s only Doctor Who fan-run convention. The three-day event features guests, cosplay contests, panels, and social activities. There will be a vender room featuring a wide variety of Doctor Who themed merchandise along with a charity auction to benefit the Pegasus Rising Project.
The Pegasus Rising Project is a small all-volunteer group that makes rescued horses available as therapy animals to returning U.S. military veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) to help with healing and social reintegration.
