Yup. It begins right here.
Okay, sure, you could say that preparation for San Diego Comic-Con 2020 starts with things like badge sales and hotel sales and the like but, when it comes down to the nuts and bolts of the thing, it’s all down to the things you experience and the talented people that you see at shows such as SDCC. And in that latter regard, that means that today is when the ramp-up for this July’s grand festivities properly gets under way, with the first six names to be presented as Special Guests by Comic-Con International.
As shared on the organisations Toucan Blog, these illustrious names serve as the first volley of announcements, due to land every Monday for the forthcoming weeks and months. And what an incredible lineup it is, too.
- JOHN ALLISON (Writer, artist, creator – GIANT DAYS, WICKED THINGS, BAD MACHINERY)
- CECIL CASTELLUCCI (Writer – BATGIRL, THE PLAIN JANES, SHADE THE CHANGING GIRL)
- SOMAN CHAINANI (Author – THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL novel series)
- KIM JUNG GI (Artist – PARADISE, THIRD HUMANITY)
- BILL MORRISON (Writer, artist, editor – THE SIMPSONS, MAD MAGAZINE, YELLOW SUBMARINE)
- JEFF SMITH (Cartoonist – BONE, RASL, TUKI: 2 MILLION BCE)
What a phenomenal first salvo – especially on a personal note, as Jung Gi happens to be one of my favourite artists, like, ever ever ever. Yes, I may have just fangirled a little bit, there. Good news is, there’s plenty more talent from comics, literacy and gaming yet to be revealed so watch this space for the possibility of one or many of your heroes, shared each and every Monday.
