Yallwest 2019: The West Coast Book convention: Santa Monica – May 3rd and 4th

One of my major areas of interest is prose novels. As a result of this, my experience of events like San Diego Comic-Con & Emerald City Comic Con is highly specialized. There aren’t many events on the west coast that focus solely on books, so Yallwest is a must for any avid west coast reader. Once a year in Santa Monica readers, authors, PR reps, bloggers, and bookstagrammers (give it a google) gather to celebrate reading actual books! There are tons of great panels and giveaways happening throughout the weekend, and the main event is free to the public.

You can find the full schedule of events here for Saturday. There is also an author signing on Friday night that requires an RSVP. You can find out more about that signing event here.

A few of the big name authors in attendance include Jay Kristoff and Victoria Schwab. Each of them have a huge presence in the book world, and their events will be hugely popular. The publishing booths in attendance at SDCC can all be found at Yallwest. NOVL, Underlined, Epic Reads, Fierce Reads, and many more all have tables at the event with their own signing and giveaway schedules. Be sure to follow them on twitter for minute-by-minute updates and surprise giveaways that don’t appear on the schedules.

Yallwest is the sister event to Yallfest, another book convention that takes place in Charleston South Carolina. Though there are other large book cons on the east coast, there aren’t a lot of bookish events on the west coast. It is a smaller event, so it’s a great chance for younger readers and families to try out a convention for the first time.

A few more author interviews will be coming soon to the site. I can’t wait to meet up with some of my favorite writers this weekend, and to see what new books I can pick up.

Do you still read prose novels? Always happy to provide recommendations through Twitter and Instagram! If you’re attending Yallwest, I would love to meet up and say hello!
