Thanks to Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment for the review copy!

A new mini-series launched as part of the Energon Universe brought to us by acclaimed writer Dan Watters, and talented artist Andrei Bressan. Enter Destro, the arms dealing seeker of world domination whose discovery of energon leads to a power no weaponry has had prior. One that could catapult his control and reach beyond that of Joe and Cobra.
Wow! Just awesome carnage and fun! Image continues to knock it out of the park as they reintroduce us to major characters as part of the new Energon Universe. Of all the offerings so far this may be the darkest and most diabolical yet! It’s ruthless, shocking, and ripe with tension. Watters and team bring us a brutal and commanding version of Destro which showcases his rise and cements him as the ultimate villain. A mad man with no allegiances, no remorse, and armed with enough weaponry to literally take over the world. I love the way this was written. The story just kicks ass in its delivery. He’s hard to like given he’s a bad guy but it’s fun to see yet another thorn in Cobra Commander’s side as everyone continues to seek control of key land and resources. Bressan knocks it out of the park with the art too! The action that unfolds in this issue is just awesome in scope and sheer terror. The details, the gunfire, explosions, it’s all just super bombastic and in your face! Of course we can’t forget about the coloring, Lucas does brilliant work! I love the way the action comes together with all the bold and bright colors of battle lighting up the night sky. As this issue comes to a wrap it just might be my favorite mini-series thus far and that’s a bold statement given the amount of talent and awesomeness that we have been given thus far. I hope we get to see these mini-series all compiled in one compendium or omnibus eventually as I think it would be awesome to own! I cannot wait for issue #2 and if you have been keeping up with the other Energon Universe mini-series this is yet another not to miss!
My rating – 10/10! Superb!
