IGNITION PRESS announces second wave of creators to stacked line-up; SDCC recap unveils covers sneak peek

Brand new comics firbrand label, IGNITION PRESS, debuted at last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con and they came in hard, with a bevvy of creator announcements, suitably renegade panels held away from the mainstream melee of the San Diego Convention Center and a pop-up location which became a nexus point for bold creators and intrigued readers alike.

Over the weekend, Ignition brought their existing slate of creators to talk about projects they had ready to start rolling out; howver, during their ‘Doing Comics Differently with Ignition Press’ session, held at the Marriott Marquis San Diego & Marina on the last day of the con, publisher Filip Sablik and editor-in-chief Jamie Rich also announced the next wave of talent that will be bringing stories to their pages over the next year or so:

  • Aneke
  • Aaron Campbell
  • Mack Chater
  • Rob Guillory
  • Phil Hester
  • Dennis Hopeless
  • Tini Howard
  • Sam Lotfi
  • Shawn Martinbrough
  • B. Clay Moore
  • Ande Parks
  • Khary Randolph
  • Brahm Revel
  • Will Rosado
  • Joanne Starer
  • Dave Wachter

We’re going to have to wait to see if the session was recorded (as we have some pertiant questions to ask, seeing as the phrase ‘creator-driven’ is being bandied about by the published, rather than the more commonly heard ‘creator owned’) but, either way, Ignition Press is very quickly establishing itself as an umbrella to some of the most innovative and talented people in comics.

And, in the wake of SDCC, Ignition is keeping the momentum going with the sneak peek releases of the covers for MURDER PODCAST #2 (Jeremy Haun (w), Mike Tissereand (a)) and VOYEUR #2 (Leah Williams (w), David Baldeon (a)), along with the opening of their new merch store on the Ignition Press homepage where fans can pick up tees, pins, stickers and variant covers galore – click HERE for more on that.

All in all, very exciting stuff. Keep it up, Ignition.

On the eve of SDCC, the publisher announced multiple Emmy Award-winning screenwriter and producer Peter Murrieta was developing a project as well. Murrieta, who was a surprise guest on the “Doing Comics Differently with Ignition Press” panel, revealed the project would be “Chicano futurism” and did a live reading of prose inspired by the project.

The announced creators’ projects, which will release in 2026, include a diverse range of genres and themes and include both first time creative collaborations and the reuniting of fan favorite creative teams. Reuniting teams include Seeley and Campbell, Moore and Chater, Guillory and Lotfi, along with Starer and Randolph. The publisher also indicated that a number of creators have multiple projects in development currently. Project titles and other details will be revealed at a later date.

“One of the best things about starting at ground zero with a new publisher is when it’s time to set the roster, the sky is the limit,” explained Editor-in-Chief Jamie S. Rich, “Being able to target so many of our favorite creators means we can build a library full of books that have all kinds of different flavors. The only common denominator is we are just as excited as the fans are to see what these amazingly talented folks will do when let loose on a comic book page.”
