Fully Loaded #1: A Cyber-Noir Masterpiece That Hits All the Right Notes! You know that rush, right? The one where a comic book cover screams, “You NEED to read me!” and then you crack it open and BAM! It’s even better than you imagined, hitting every sweet spot a comic fan could ask for. That’s exactly the ride I got with Verity Comics’ Fully Loaded #1 by the incredibly talented Jimmy Broxton.
From the moment I dove in, I was completely absorbed. Broxton’s artwork is a visual feast, reminiscent of Frank Miller’s gritty, powerful style, but with a unique flair that makes every panel pop. It’s a brilliant fusion of retro-noir styling and cyberpunk elements, creating a world where an Audi TT sports gatling guns, space shuttles zoom alongside flying taxis, and payphones still exist. This isn’t just a comic; it’s a cinematic experience, like flipping through a director’s most ambitious storyboard.
Broxton throws out the traditional rulebook when it comes to paneling, and it’s glorious. He owns these pages, giving us dynamic action and angles that draw you deeper into the story. The extra crosshatch style and dot gain give the book an undeniably badass aesthetic that perfectly complements the narrative.
The opening sequence alone had me completely hooked. Without spoiling too much, we’re thrust into the world of Carson Blake, who returns to a city he’d left behind to aid a friend who once saved his life. Now, that friend’s family is in danger, and there’s a whole lot of unfinished business brewing with a crime boss and an underground criminal syndicate. The vibe is a perfect cocktail of Blade Runner’s brooding atmosphere, The Fifth Element’s vibrant futurism, and the chaotic energy of Mad Max and Total Recall.
Seriously, the story grabbed me instantly, and the art is just chef’s kiss. This isn’t just a comic; it’s an epic, stylish cyber-noir thrill ride that holds nothing back. If you’re looking to invest in something truly special, Fully Loaded #1 is $5.99 incredibly well spent. My only gripe? It left me desperate for the next issue! This series has all the makings of a true classic.
This comic completely exceeded my expectations.
