The holidays are right around the corner and this is a great time to stop by your local comic book shop and buy some comics to have as stocking stuffers. Your local comic book shop also has hardcover editions of your favorite comics that can be given as gifts, too. Another great gift for the comic book lover in your life is a subscription to Comixology Unlimited or a gift subscription to a service like Marvel Unlimited or DC Unlimited. Wow, is it just me or did the year just suddenly slip by? I want to thank everyone for reading my column and I will be returning after the holidays with some great new comics for you to read.

MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN #1 MARVEL
Saladin Ahmed (W)
Javier Garron (A)
David Curiel (Colors)
For Miles it’s not easy when you are trying to balance home life and school with being a superhero, but when Brooklyn is facing problems from Rhino you know something is bound to go bad. Saladin Ahmed has teamed up with Marvel’s “Young Gun” Javi Garron to bring Miles back! Saladin has been killing it lately, his Eisner award winning BLACK BOLT, was so amazing and his writing on Marvel’s EXILES has been phenomenal. I am extremely excited that Miles is coming back and I am floored that it is Saladin at the helm, because I know Miles is in the best hands.
A WALK THROUGH HELL #6 AFTERSHOCK
Garth Ennis (Co-Creator and Writer)
Goran Sudžuka (Co-Creator and Artist)
Ive Svorcina (Colors)
Two FBI agents walk into a warehouse…I want to tell you more but all I can suggest is that you read this comic. I have never been a huge fan of horror comics but even though this is technically in the horror genre I would classify this one a more of a twisted romp into darkness, and I love it. This is one of the best comics of the year and it makes the top of my list for the year, maybe its because I love Garth Ennis’s writing so much or maybe it’s just that good. I suggest reading this one as soon as you can.
X-23 #7 MARVEL
Mariko Tamaki (W)
Diego Olortegui (A)
A new arc begins. Laura and Gabby are on the hunt for a killer that disappears without a trace. This series is not getting the love it deserves and seems to be overlooked to much. The stories that Mariko Tamaki keeps brings to X-23 are so good and with Diego Olortegui’s fabulous art this is book that everyone should add to their pull list.
I MOVED TO LOS ANGELES TO WORK IN ANIMATION BOOM! STUDIOS
Natalie Nourigat (Writer and Artist)
This is a great book that gives a first hand account of how one artist relocated from Portland to Southern California to pursue her dream of working in the animation industry. This autobiographical tale from Natalie Nourigat tells her story of the highs and lows of getting a job in animation. This would be a great book for an artist on your Christmas list or just buy it for your own amusement. I really enjoyed reading Natalie’s story and she pulled no punches on how long it took her and what she went through as she looked for a job. Plus, the nice bonus was the personal stories from others in animation that told how they got in the business too.
I would love to hear what comics you are reading right now, and if you have a comic that you would like me to review drop me a line @lilredrubi74 on Twitter or leave a comment below.
