New on the stands this week from Image Comics is M1: Monster Racing League #1. Set in Tokyo in the near future, this series follows 17 year old Dev who has just moved from San Diego. She’s not very happy with her father for forcing the move and falls into an underground racing league.
This isn’t just normal underground street racing though. In this league, there are not just mechanical upgrades, it takes genetic modifications and monster mutations to generate the speed to win.
M1: Monster Racing League is written by father-daughter writing team Robert and Lily Windom (co-writers of Family Time), and features spectacular visuals from the legendary Jae Lee along with colorist June Chung. The book features open order covers from Jae Lee and Jon J. Muth along with retailer incentives, a 1:25 by Jae Lee and a 1:50 black and white version of cover A.
There are also several store exclusives available for collectors to hunt down. This is a series for those looking for a comic that is different from the many current superhero and horror stories. The book is very manga inspired and an animated series is in development.
M1: Monster Racing League #1 is set for release on June 10th, 2026.
