What it’s about: A sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat, this time we see Shao Kahn attempting to win the Mortal Kombat tournament so he can take control of the Earthrealm.
Dan’s thoughts: If you’re a fan of of the 2021 movie and/or the video games, this movie is quite fun. From the fight scenes, to the battle arenas, the director of photography (Stephen F. Windon), and fight coordinator (Malay Kim) both did a great job in their roles. There were a few easter eggs thrown in the movie including the game’s co-creator (who I found out later actually voiced the “Get over here” line from the original game) making an appearance.
When they introduce Johnny Cage (Karl Urban in a role you could tell he enjoyed), they do so via a very cheesy 80s straight to video movie scene, which was so over-the-top that it was great. It also featured a death scene that was in par with a death scene from 2024’s The Beekeeper (IYKYK).
Dan’s rating: 7/10. It’s a fun movie for fans of the franchise/video game w/ quite a few references to the game(s).
