Thanks to Vault Comics for the review copy!

It is 1837 in a quaint island village off the coast of Salem, Massachusetts where a strange species of bloodthirsty butterflies spread a mysterious dancing plague. This is the setting for the new title, Nectar, arriving March 4th from Vault Comics. The story is brought to us from New York Times bestselling author Jeremy Robinson. Both Robinson’s writing and the art by Italian phenom artists Annapaola Martello and Francesco Francini give the reader what feels like an accurate portrayal of the time period. Issue one leaves us with a lot of burning questions that will be answered as the series continues. Who thought butterflies could be creepy?

The spine-chilling variant covers for Nectar #1 have been creating a ton of buzz in the collector community. There is a standard A cover by Chris Shehan and cover I is a foil by series writer Jeremy Robinson. There is also a NSFW blind bag with a cover from Suspiria Vilchez. The retailer incentives are especially hair-raising and include a 1:10, 1:20, 1:30, and 1:40 by Jonathan Wayshak, Mann House, Jason Shawn Alexander, and Danny Luckert respectively.  There is also a 1:50 ratio which is a black and white full art version of the Wayshak cover and the desire of many collectors. A very limited store exclusive is available with trade dress or as a full art foil cover by artist Michael Goodwin through retailer Jetpack Comics.

My rating: 8/10

Nectar #1 is set for release on March 4th, 2026.
