What is it about: Peter Parker fighting crime full time as Spider-Man in a world that’s forgotten who he is. The movie leans into that isolation as much as the action, pitting him against The Hand, Scorpion, and a mind-controlling threat, while Damage Control’s seemingly friendly director turns out to have his own agenda.
What Vanessa thought: The story just jumps in where there is a whole back story that they omitted, but it didn’t feel like a direct continuation from Spider-Man: No Way Home. But you can feel that Spider-Man and Punisher suddenly had become partners in crime, and were going to be together throughout the movie.
You are seeing Peter Parker struggling with the memories of once knowing everyone but they had no idea who he was, and also a new possible “enemy” causing a muck in the story which Spider-Man naturally would be involved with later on.
You had some slap stick humor with Punisher and Yelena Belova/Black Widow, then your well choreographed fight scene with The Hand, but you just wanted more; it felt like it just cut off quickly.
While there wasn’t too much action other than a few quick scenes, and the movie dwelled more on dealing with philosophical issues of being forgotten, and being used for your powers for the sake of Science, which made the movie forgettable and flat.
Vanessa’s grade: C+. I could not get into it, without the pre-watching of tv shows that lead up to this movie, if you need to do homework for a movie you have lost your audience somewhat. But Tom Holland and Sadie Sink were carrying it heavily and I can’t fault them for working with what they were given.
