Thanks to Mad Cave Studios for the review copy!

A new OGN from the creative mind of acclaimed artist Pierre-Alexandre Comtois. When a young monk, Zeek, discovers a mysterious book in the monastery library he’s plunged into a mystery and journey that will lead him on the experience of a lifetime. It won’t be without danger or peril though as an evil figure has full intentions of assuming ownership of this book at all costs.

What a creative and original story. I really enjoyed the whimsical and playful nature of this book. While it has some serious tones and there is a definitive presence of evil it manages to keep things semi light for much of the book. Comtois has a unique and innocent way of storytelling that allows the reader to really enjoy what is in front of them. The fact that he’s also pulling double duty here and drawing right along with writing the story is remarkable. As a reader you are able to get more into the head and world of the creator and it’s something! The characters and world building is incredible. I love the eccentric designs of some of the monsters and creatures that inhabit this world. A couple of the characters appear to be off world or alien to this world as well. They are all beautifully drawn and rendered. I can’t help but think of this world as something Guillermo del Toro would create! It has the potential to be huge and unique. The story also gave me Mouse Guard and Never Ending Story or Dark Crystal vibes. There is a lot to take in here and while it’s a very straightforward story you can tell that a lot of thought and process went into the creation of this book. I look forward to reading the next tome and seeing where this journey Comtois has created for us takes us! From the story, to the amazing art and wonderful colors, I highly recommend checking this one out! It’s a joy!

My rating – 9/10 Great!
