What Leo thought: The movie follows Sydney Sweeney’s character as she comes out of prison on probation and starts to work for this rich family as a housemaid, but we see that this family is far from perfect and that’s something is not right here, and you spend the whole time trying to figure out what that something is.
Now some people might have you believe that this is a horror movie, but I want to set the record straight that this is a psychological thriller with no jump scares or paranormal activity. It’s an adaptation of the successful novel of the same name, and as somebody that hasn’t read the books I thought the movie was well done.
Everybody in this movie does a great job, and it has something for everyone, some eye candy for the ladies and some eye candy for the guys, so I don’t think anybody will be leaving disappointed after watching this movie.
Now I’m usually bad at predicting movies or catching on to things that might have been obvious to other people, but I was pretty fast to catch on to the twists and turns that might be coming in this movie and I was surprised that I was correct. The downside to being right is that you’re not surprised because you thought it was happening anyway which leaves you underwhelmed.
What I think the movie does well is it explains people’s motives and why they did what they did, so I don’t think anybody will be leaving the movie confused.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending though because it portrayed a certain demographic as bad when in reality if you did some thinking, you will realize that the opposite is actually true, and this demographic is just the product of a bad manufacturer. The reason I say this like this is because I don’t want to give anything away in this movie.
It’s best to go blind and don’t watch any of the trailers or as little as possible because I feel like most trailers give too much away.
Leo’s rating: Overall I give this movie a B+.
The Housemaid is now in theaters.
