Thanks to Magma Comix for the review copy!

A new fantasy horror series from the brand new, indie publisher Magma Comix who have hit the ground running with projects that are creator owned and managed while holding a distinct level of quality and standards. When a clan of barbarians is at their wits end dealing with a larger and more advanced enemy they enlist the help of a necromancer, for better or worse, to help them turn the tide in battle.

This was a really fun read! I love the idea behind it. Instead of placing the focus on the barbarians themselves, the battles, the action, etc. This book puts the focus on a slightly lesser known character class, the Necromancer. It’s an incredibly fascinating look at what a vital and important role this character can play in a story or even in a war. While their presence can have both a positive and negative affect it’s an angle that is both fresh and exhilarating from a storytelling standpoint. The writing is fresh and distinct. It’s quickly paced and it pulls you into the story at hand. The art and colors are what truly stand out in this book. It’s gritty, pulpy, and raw. It has that fantastical and pulpy look to it but with heaps upon heaps of bloody body horror imagery. It’s vastly detailed and each panel captures the glorious carnage  helping to deliver this tale in its totality. I love how the writers deliver the barbarians their wish in the end. It’s wild and completely over the top! You will not see that coming. haha. I guess the moral is, you don’t always get exactly what you wish for and there is always a debt that has to be paid! I don’t know for sure but I get the impression the necromancer moves on for another tale in the next issue. I think that would be cool but either way I’ll be sticking around to see what happens in the next issue!

My rating 9/10 – Great!!
