Episode 3 of What We Do in the Shadows was written by Josh Lieb & Jemaine Clement and directed by Jemaine Clement.
SYNOPSIS: The fragile truce between the vampires and Staten Island’s werewolves is tested; Colin Robinson finds romance with a new coworker.
The vampire’s plans to take over Staten Island are put to the wayside in episode 3. They have more pressing matters to take care of when Laszlo
(Matt Berry) discovered some of his prized topiaries have been desecrated by werewolf pee. This age-old battle between vampires and werewolves takes up the bulk of their screen time, but for the real meat of the episode focuses on everyone’s favorite energy vampire Colin Robinson (played by
Mark Proksch).
Colin meets a special lady (played by Saturday Night Live veteran
Vanessa Bayer) at work who makes him feel things he hasn’t before. They strike up a relationship, and a lot more information about Colin’s abilities is revealed. The inclusion of a non-traditional vampire in this show allows for so much creative storytelling. In a lot of ways, it’s a whole new paradigm of vampirism so there are very few expectations attached. I’m looking forward to Colin’s future antics.
Overall this felt like a bit of a filler episode after the first two. I’m looking forward to seeing the takeover of Staten Island continue. There were some hints that Guillermo (Harvey Guillen) is still thinking about making a big change in his life. I am so excited to see him become a stronger person.
