The Comic Book Legal Defence Fund (CBLDF) Welcome Party – traditionally held on the first proper night of San Diego Comic-Con, this year Thursday 24th July, kicking off at 8pm PT at the Westgate Hotel – is always one of the lauded shindigs of the entire weekend, with the great and the good of the comics industry gathering for refined conversation, a sumptuous buffet, sweet tunes and the opportunity to help raise funds by taking part in one of the most impressive charity silent auctions of comic art and memorabilia this side of Guillermo Del Toro’s guest bedroom.
2025, however, sees a bit more a raucous element take centre stage as Oni Press and The Nacelle Company, along with legendary property BIKER MICE FROM MARS, re-join the likes of Mad Cave Studios, Kickstarter, Global Comix and Raremarq to sponsor the affair for their second year. The first FIFTY people through the door will grab themselves a hot goody bag of comics, swag and surprises.
If you’re a CBLDF Member, admission is free but the general unwashed can also snag entrance with a $25 donation at the door – you will be let in with boardshorts on but don’t expect the likes of David Avallone or Maggie Thompson to talk to you dressed like that in public, c’mon, they’re far too civilised.
