The con hangover hit me really hard today folks (I just woke up from spending the night sleeping on the floor), but I’m still wishing there was just one more day of con to go back to. This was one of the best Emerald City Comic Cons that I’ve been to in a while, and the new building was a very big part of it. The new Summit building is perfect for conventions, with everything being in the same building (except for badge pick up, which is fine). There were Wi-Fi passwords given to all attendees (which is always needed), and the show floor and artist alley was packed with great vendors.
Since it was the last day and we had made it a part of our routine by then, we stopped once again to get a tarot card reading from Mortus Viventi. Sunday I pulled Justice, meaning “Justice symbolizes the struggle of finding balance in your life. What happens in darkness will come to light. If there has been an unjust situation in your life then this signifies that the universe is working in your favor to help bestow balance in your life, protect it.” Again, as I’ve been the past two days, this has been a really fun thing to do every day to see what lies ahead for us during the days of con and whatever any of us were struggling with (in my case, it means my friends are on me about listening to the cards and taking better care of myself). We also stopped at Triple Click Photos again to grab more amazing cosplay shots before we needed to de-cosplay ourselves.
The top thing for me this weekend was the cosplay community. Everyday I cosplayed, people were so nice and kind, there were also so many amazing cosplay ideas brought to life this weekend too. We ended up finding the quest giver (npc_questgiver) and got some cool quests to complete over the weekend. My friend got The Rogue, meaning he had to find a famous weapon (he went straight to finding a Stormbreaker from Thor). I got The Void, and was tasked with finding something alcohol related. Now, I’m a little salty about the tough quests I keep being given (I was never able to complete mine from last year’s ECCC) and hadn’t heard about a bar at this new ECCC Summit building (there was one hidden on the fifth floor). But, on a stroke of luck I found a pirate with a tankard attached to his hip. Quest completed! Sadly, we could not find the quest giver to turn in our accomplishments, but there is always Rose City Comic Con he’ll be at next!
It felt like con on Sunday just all fell into place, my partner cosplay with the always lovely VivSai (@VivSai) went great and we got a great photo shoot done of our bunny suit girls. I was able to get a bingo on the Pacific Northwest Cosplayer Guild fun active cosplay bingo sheet for the weekend (yay!). I did a lot of retail shopping on Sunday, some for myself, gifts for my bestfriend and more Magic cards to make my friends cry the next time we play. Overall, I had an absolute blast this weekend, be it cosplaying to my heart’s content, meeting and networking with some really great new people, and just spending time seeing old friends. Emerald City Comic Con 2023 was an amazing weekend that will now cause me to go into a week of hangover and recovery mode. I can’t wait to go back to Emerald City Comic Con when it returns to the Seattle Convention Center Summit Building from Feb 29 – Mar 3, 2024.
