Day three was the busiest day at ECCC for me. It was a lot of fun but took so much energy from me. I was able to run into old friends (made my day!) and made so many new ones. Making friends at con is one of my favorite things to do. I’m pretty close with one I made at last year’s Kumoricon and we still talk every day too!
Another of my favorite things to do at cons, especially ECCC is finding a nice place to sit and people watch for a bit. I keep finding myself drawn to the fourth floor and looking out and down below at the LARP that seems like non stop fun (also hilarious to see kids kicking the adult’s butts). My friend and I were almost pulled in by one of the promoters for it, he told us, “it’s the best place to beat up your friends”. Sadly, our cosplay didn’t really allow us to attack one another, we will have to save it for next time!
There were also so many great cosplay moments, the friend that came along with me this weekend was so worried about his cosplay not being recognized. He was cosplaying as Spider-Man Noir (from the comics, and Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse), and I couldn’t have been happier for him by the responses. There were so many little kids that called out to him, running up and asking for photos, and there was even the coolest part of people clapping as soon as they saw him and asking for photos with him. I have never been so happy to be the camera person before. My other friends did a huge family cosplay group, Steven and the Diamonds from Steven Universe (they looked amazing and could not go five feet without being stopped).
I finally started shopping at the booths today, and I also stopped to grab a tarot reading. I got The Hermit, meaning “The Hermit encourages us to go within and reflect. It is a good time to withdraw from the crowd and reconnect with your thoughts and emotions. Remaining secluded will help to revitalize the mind, body, and soul”. I know I will 100% be doing this once con is over, cause I know all my social levels will be maxed out. Since finding this, my friend and I are having a great time starting our day off at con with this. That and doing photos at Triple Click Photo before the line is too busy and we’re too tired in our cosplays.
I finally found, with lots of help from my group of friends, the Magic The Gathering booth with the artists of some of the cards. The total count for me so far is five cards (all signed too!) from one of these booths, but I will be going back for a few more (and some of the beautiful art prints of characters) and checking out the other artists. I even bought a couple of packs of different Magic sets to try my luck (I feel very lucky after opening them), and am looking forward to the next game night with my nerdy Magic friends so I can crush them.
Lastly, I know day four is going to be great and for the first time I’m going pretty big for my cosplay for the last day. Normally, I try to stick to easy and comfortable cosplays because most (and definitely me) are running on the last of their energy. Tomorrow is the big day to debut my bunny suit version of Shinobu from Demon Slayer, talked into this last minute cosplay by a friend who’s doing the same version but a different female character from Demon Slayer. I have a good feeling about this outfit, even though I am nervous since I’ve never done this type of cosplay before. I hope everyone going to ECCC23’s fourth and final day has a blast and are able to nab all the goodies they wanted!
