Ali’s precon thoughts: I am so freaking excited to be heading to MegaCon in a day. A DAY!!!! The flight will be long, but I’m so stoked to be seeing friends that I haven’t gotten to see since DragonCon. I’m also over the moon because one of my favorite people ever, also known as one of my wonderful friends lives over there. I can’t wait to see her, check out Disney World (I really want to get some ears and a lightsaber) and grab some boba tea with her.
Alright, so this is the third convention that is brand new to me this year. It is also the third one in a row, and all three in the same month (yes I know, technically it starts february 1st. But I’m heading over there during January). Crazy? Yes. Even more so when you think about how I only had three days in between conventions, with Anime Washington finishing up this last Sunday. I think I can do it though, mostly because I then get three weeks till my next convention (Longcon). So, a little breathing room.
I haven’t had a moment to really take in the schedule for MegaCon yet, I do know the guests that will be there. There are some that I already know I will be sobbing my eyes out when I get to meet them and maybe talk to them for a moment. The main person I know this will happen with is Maile Flanagan, she voices Naruto from Naruto. This was my first anime, my first manga, the series that got me into everything nerdy. The character Naruto means so much to me and I know there is no way I could ever truly convey my feelings that best describes how he’s changed my life all the years ago. But I will damn well try. This is also the first time I’ve ever gotten this close to the main cast in years, the last few times was a million years ago at Sakura-con and again at Anime Washington (lines too long to meet the other two main characters). Anyway, that won’t be the only main character they have from Naruto. Kate Higgins (Sakura), Yuri Lowenthal (Sasuke) and Dave Wittenberg (Kakashi) will also be there. All four of them will be doing signings and a big Naruto panel that I will be at (if I can’t get in, even in the back. I will cry).
There are going to be a lot of other big anime guests, Deku from My Hero Academia, the whole family from SpyxFamily, Luffy, Zoro, and Nami from One Piece. I will be trying my hardest to go to their panels and maybe autographings too, but the Naruto one will be my main goal because of the place it holds in my heart (also because I don’t think a chance like this will ever come around again). I also saw that some of the cast from the live action One Piece will be there and I was planning on going to their panels and taking a photo with some of them. But, sadly Inaki Godoy (Luffy) had to cancel his appearance. Some of the other actors will also still be coming, but he was the one I really wanted to meet from the group. I wish I had enough space to keep talking about who all I’m excited to see, but the list for MegaCon is just too long! It looks like it’s going to be an amazing time and I could not be more excited to be going. I know I’ll probably be downloading the schedule to read over and plan out my con while on my flights over to Orlando, but I’m already grinning and don’t think I can stop. Check out The Convention Collectives social media, and my own to follow along on our epic times during the four day amazing-ness that is MegaCon! We will also be sharing some write ups afterward too!
Dan’s precon thoughts: So this weekend I am adding yet another con to my list! As I’m typing this I’m in the air on my way to Orlando for MEGACON (after a quick layover in Dallas).
I’ve heard the FanExpo group of cons usually put on a good show here, and looking at the guest list I can see that! I’m looking forward to getting some art from some artists including Artgerm (who lives in Singapore so he doesn’t come to the states to often), Martin Simmonds, Sorah Suhng, and more.
Of course as a big fan of RSVLTS I’ll also be hitting their booth up to try to get some of their shirts, primarily the Haunted Mansion and the Floral City one.
Just like Ali, I haven’t had a chance to look over the schedule yet, but I’m sure there will be a few panels I may want to catch including the Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor one.
All in all I look forward to 3 days (No Sunday, will be flying back to San Diego early that day) of yet another con that was on my list of ones I wanted to do.
