The Party Comes to An End for Dragon Con 2024

My goodness, it’s been almost two full weeks since Dragon Con 2024 has ended. I flew home on the last day, and slept all day after getting back. Sadly, it’s still not enough sleep to recover for the endless party that is Dragon Con.

It’s hard to find a place to start when talking about Dragon Con this year, I’m too tired to feel the “con come down”. I also feel like this convention just passed by way too fast, one second I’m rushing to be ready. The next, I’m already back at my friend’s house getting ready for our next con, so I’m feeling like I’ve been thrown for a loop.

Dragon Con was so much fun though. I seem to have forgotten the small things that make this convention even better. Like finding little gifts all around everyday, in the skybridges, on tables, and just random people coming up to you to give them to you. I found a bag of origami stars, which are super tiny and colorful. I’m going to get a little jar to put them in, and I also have a bright hot pink cowboy hat (mini) to put on one of my anime figures (yes, it has to be Gojo). There were also some One Piece goodies I was given during the meetup, and I’m just loving them.

There’s also the game of trying to get as many ribbons as possible, and also trying to get the funniest ones too. People throughout the con go up the floors of The Marriot to let down their ribbon beards, and see how long their ribbons are. Other people make capes, or dresses out of their ribbons, and I saw quite a few people leaning against the railing in the Pulse Bar (at the Marriott) to see how long their ribbon beards were. It’s always fun to collect more ribbons, I ended up getting most of mine after taking photos of people’s cosplay and talking to them about it. So far I think my favorite one is the one I got first, right off the bat during the bunny hutch (I’ll share a photo below of the ribbons I was able to get this year and my favorite is at the top).

I think the part of Dragon Con that is making me the most tired since leaving, is the constant parties and cosplay. Mostly the parties though, up until almost 2am each night (or day?) and changing time zones as well. Wearing cosplay around all day in the heat, walking multiple blocks to get to the different parties and food, and then dancing in cosplay? Wears a person out! My poor feet were hurting something bad by the end of con, I still remember Sunday I was walking funny because of the shoes I was using for a cosplay photoshoot (I’ve never ripped off a pair of shoes so fast and walked around without them).

If you haven’t guessed already, I highly recommend going to next year’s Dragon Con and getting a head start on your cosplay now. Because this is the convention to strut your stuff and get the most out of box ideas for cosplay, and there’s the bunny hutch event as well. Besides all the cosplay, goodies, events, panels, parties, and friends to be made – Dragon Con is one hell of an experience and you’ll always have great stories to tell for the whole year afterward (at least until the next Dragon Con).
