Today is Valentine’s Day, and many will be celebrating in the evening and over the weekend. Now if you’re celebrating alone or with a friend, partner or whoever there are many stay-at-home activities to enjoy the holiday (get your minds out of the gutter, geez). I’m talking a nerdy dream come true, chilling at home surrounded by great streaming sites.
Since it is so cold this season, I would like no more snow please, and that limits outside activities. There’s always the stay in date watching the classics (and my go to’s always), Pride & Prejudice (2005 film), The Mummy (for those wanting romance and action. Just as long as you only watch The Mummy 1 & 2, there are NO more after that.) and Castlevania. I promise I’ll come back to the Castlevania comment in a moment.
Anyway, for the anime lover, staying in to watch softer romance anime to get your heart skipping a beat. Here’s a few recommendations to check out, A Sign of Affection, My Happy Marriage, Horimiya, and My Love Story. These ones are on the sweeter side for those with a sweet tooth and want to just be happy watching a series, plus all of the series listed have manga series too if you need more after watching the anime.

Now, for the recommendations that are more of a heart pounding romantic watch, there is Yakuza Fiance, I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss, Fena: The Pirate Princess, and there are countless new that are isekai (I highly recommend checking out the “you may also like” section on I’m the Villainess, and So I’m Taming the Final Boss on Crunchyroll. They have some really great romance/fantasy ones). I’ve also watched and read all of the listed ones, because there is no way I’m going to recommend something I haven’t seen and these are all fun watches (you won’t regret it).
Okay, here is where I’ll talk about my Castlevania comment at the start of this article. Castlevania, is a hands down, masterpiece and is an action/historical/thriller/romance anime. If you haven’t seen it yet or have only seen the new sequel series, Castlevania: Nocturne, you have to see the original Castlevania series (it’s the law, you have to watch it). It is a great adventure action anime that does have romance at the heart of its plot (this will be explained in detail in an upcoming article just about the series) and honestly will make you laugh. Other than the romance, blood and gore, vampires, whips as essential weapons, there’s also an amazing amount of sarcasm in the series too.
So this Valentine’s Day treat your special someone in your life, or just yourself to a nice night in with all the works. Good food, fun drinks, comfy settings, and some great romantic anime (or classic romantic movies) to sit down to and binge your hearts out to. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a new special someone in the form of a new anime character to obsess over.
