ATTACK ON TITAN S1, Taking a look back at the very beginning

Since I’m in full Attack on Titan fan mode, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the start of the series for a rewatch. I gotta say, it’s making me remember how much pain this series has put me through. Because back in the day we had to wait one to three years for another season AOT (takes a minute to silently cry) to come out, and now the wait time is months.

Attack on Titan is about humanity being confined behind walls because of the fearsome giant like humans, Titans. One day multiple Titans break through one of their many walls and kill many, humanity’s only hope is their scout troops who fight and explore for a solution to one day put a stop to all titans and reclaim the world.

Absolutely bonkers anime, I still have no clue how someone could have come up with an idea like this and execute it so well. This is also a very graphic and somewhat horror filled anime, with lots of gore and you will find yourself crying (from many many things). I mean we are talking about a show that has these giant like humans who just eat people and tear them apart, of course you’re going to be a bit devastated from the fallout. The designs of the titans are interesting to watch and to see how they run, as well as which of them are considered abnormal titans. The second part of season one hits even harder with the complexity behind the special titans who seem almost aware and have special abilities.

We get a good group of characters that we follow through their training and then into the scouts, where they face their first fight against the titans (and then a pretty big twist). But, it’s good to remember that you should not have many favorites, if any in the series. No one is safe. Although, like most shows, you know a massive amount of people will die, there really isn’t a way to stop yourself from loving them. There are the main three that we follow, Eren, Armin, and Mikasa. Who I find strange but lovable, but mark my words. Armin is going to end up in a titans mouth multiple times in this series, it all depends on how much luck he has left. The rest of the gang from training who all go into the scouts (and Annie who doesn’t), all work their way into your heart. The forefront of this love is Levi, who is not a part of the training class. I will say this now and I will say it forever, Captain Levi is a god among men and can never die (if he did, I know for sure more than half the fandom would leave).

In the end Attack on Titan season one will leave you surprised by the storyline, gasping from pain over the characters and horrified from the gory mess, and lets not forget to mention the sting of betrayal you won’t see coming. You can catch season one through the currently airing season four on Hulu, Funimation and Crunchyroll.
