BLOOD COMMANDMENT #1 review – Definitely worth a look if you are into horror (Kudranski, Dillon, Morwill) Image Comics

Writer, Art, Design, Logo, and Translation: Szymon Kudranski
Letterer: Marshall Dillon
Translation Assistant and Edits: Atom Morwill

Thanks to Image for the review copy!

A new horror mini-series from the mind of creator Szymon Kudranski who recently brought us Something Epic. Everything is not as it seems for a father and son living off the grid. When the past comes back to haunt the father while putting his secrets in jeopardy he’s led on a manhunt to protect his identity, his son, and their peaceful existence from the very possible thing that created him.

Fantastic first issue here! I’ve been a big fan of Kudranski’s storytelling and art. He’s got quite the imagination and if this is anything near as ambitious as Something Epic we are in for a treat. The story has your basic father and son dynamic to start but with an entirely new twist. The Dad is hiding the fact that he’s actually a creature of the night and now his past has come back to challenge everything he had been protecting his son from. It has a little bit of that Leave No Trace feel but mixed with a bit of Let The Right One In if the roles were reversed. It’s very dark, very detailed, and nails the super creepy vibe it’s going for. The art is just awesome as well! Kudranski really sets the tone of the story with his detailed and richly colored panels. Everything moves smoothly from page to page and the pacing is perfect, building up the tension and fear as we work our way to the final pages. It’s only four issues so it will have to pick up the pace a lot in the next issue but this has the potential to be one of the great horror mini-series of the year. Definitely worth a look if you are into horror or books like 30 Days of Night. Check it out!

My rating 8/10 Great!!
