BOOM! Studios – news week July 29th

Now that San Diego Comic-Con is over for another year, it’s time to get back to our weekly recap of news from comic publishers.

BOOM! Studios kicked on the week with a preview of their upcoming Ghosted in LA #2 from the team of writer Sina Grace and artist Siobhan Keenan.

The series is “about figuring out your love life – and your afterlife – in Hollywood” and the second issue will be available in stores on August 14 with two different cover versions. The main cover is by Siobhan Keenan with a variant cover from Sina Grace.

On Wednesday BOOM! released a sneak peek at the first issue of the next title in the OVER THE GARDEN WALL series, OVER THE GARDEN WALL™: SOULFUL SYMPHONIES #1.

The first issue of the five part series from writer Birdie Willis and illustrated by Rowan MacColl will be released on August 7, 2019.

The synopsis from the press release is as follows: “In their strange and rambling quest to find a way out of the mysterious woods and back home to their ordinary lives, brothers Wirt and Greg, along with their friend, a talking bird named Beatrice, stumble upon an odd town full of stages, musical shops, and theaters but not a single person in sight. When Greg breaks out into song on stage in the eerily silent village, he finds an audience of one who then draws them all into the performance to end all other performances …

Also this week BOOM! released a preview for their upcoming fourth issue of Angel. The issue will have a main cover by artist Dan Panosian and variant cover versions from Scott Buoncristiano, Gabriel Hernandez Walta, and Gleb Melnikov. When the issue comes out on August 28th, it will feature the debut of vampire hunter Charles Gunn.

As the week came to an end the news came out that the upcoming first issue of writer Kieron Gillen, artist Dan Mora, and colorist Tamra Bonvillain Once and Future has sold out before it even hit shelves.

Also check out the interview our own Sam Maybe did with Kieron at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 in which they discuss the title, and other topics here.

To meet demand a 2nd printing of the issue will be released on August 28th with a new cover by Dan Mora.

Having ghosts as roommates comes with its perks, as well as its downsides, but for Daphne Walters—new LA transplant, college freshman, and freshly dumped by her high school boyfriend, Ronnie—living at Rycroft Manor and getting acquainted with the ghostly tenants does a great job of distracting her from her recent breakup.  That is, until she sees Ronnie at school making friends and thriving without her, and Daphne needs a bigger, shinier distraction—which is how she ends up agreeing to a date with a pushy bro who’s all up in her space. What is Daphne thinking?! And will this date end in true love or a complete disaster?
