Director: Alex Garland
Starring: Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Nick Offerman
Movie Length: 1 hours 49 minutes
What it’s about: A dystopian tale that sees the US in the middle of a civil war and follows 4 reporters as they head from New York City to Washington D.C. in an attempt to interview the President.
What Dan thought: Wow, what an intense movie from Writer/Director Alex Garland who is no stranger to intense movies, having written 28 Days Later (and it’s sequel), Ex Machina, and other movies. From the start of the movie the as we follow war reporters/photographers through a civil war in the US the intensity is at 100 and doesn’t slow down much. The movie is mostly seen from their vantage point, and it delivers in all aspects, and shows us that war is hell.
The cinematography from Garland’s frequent collaborator Rob Hardy was gorgeous from the close up shots, to the shots that mimic a black and white photo, to the overhead shots during the battles, to the ground shots during the battles.
The acting from veterans Dunst, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Moura, and Offerman as well as fairly new actress Spaeny was terrific thank to a great script from Garland.
Dan’s rating: 8/10. If you’re looking for an intense movie w/ great visuals and cinematography, Civil War is a must see
Civil War is now in theaters in the US and the UK.
