Thanks to Image Comics for the review copy!

To begin, full disclosure, I have not picked up a Department of Truth since issue #15, so the plot was a little lost on me. Seeing that a lot has happened since the last issue I read, the current narrative motivates me to go back and read the ones I missed. It was quite refreshing that the tone and the art stayed the same. I’ll admit, I wasn’t a fan of the art right away, but it has grown on me very much and truly embodies the whole series. The fantastical, nightmarish style, illustrated through sketchy texture and intentional color palette, brings the narrative to life and pulls you into the mysterious atmosphere. I can’t imagine anyone but Martin Simmons at the helm; he continues to kill it!

James Tynion IV continues to pique your interest, without giving too much away. The ending will insure you pick up the next issue. Where will this new development take us in the series? The issue continues the overall thought-provoking look into conspiracy theories, as the series questions reality through the bends and twists its characters explore. I would classify this series as a psychological thriller, teetering on the brink of horror. If you haven’t picked up this series or caught yourself stepping away from it for too long, I highly recommend diving into the shifty world and dark secrets of The Department of Truth. You won’t be disappointed!

Department of Truth #30 is now available.
