Thanks to Image Comics for the review copy!

From the pages of Invincible comes Battle Beast in his very own blood-soaked solo adventure! Violence is surely guaranteed as we follow him on his mission across the cosmos to find the one adversary worthy enough to defeat him in combat.
Readers are immediately thrust into the carnage of Battle Beast’s world, one that is intense, gory, and super violent. Ottley’s dynamic style makes every panel on the page pop; not only do we see every action and attack, we feel it. This, coupled with Leoni’s stylized palette, makes for a visceral and stunning sequence of events. Battle Beast comes across as strong, powerful in every pose Ottley puts him in, even when he’s standing still.
Kirkman’s storytelling moves at a quickened pace while providing a balance of exposition and narrative progression. While one may expect a bloodbath on every page–only one major conflict takes place in this issue. This allows readers to gain a sense of who Battle Beast really is–and how he’s more than just a soldier seeking conquest. There is certainly more to come, and we can certainly enjoy the excitement of exploring this cosmic journey even further.
This debut issue left me wanting more. I am fully invested in finding out when–and–how Battle Beast will meet his end. The action shows no sign of stopping, so I don’t expect the adventure to slow down anytime soon. This is a solid start for Battle Beast, and sets up an epic tale that is sure to be a bloody good time for more issues to come!
