Mad Cave brings us a new sci-fi romance from talented writer Francesca Perillo and stand out artist Stefano Cardoselli. Set in a future where robots have taken over most every day jobs and become regular citizens in the world. A friendly and lonely taxi-bot Jojo picks up a like-minded passenger thus kicking off the discovery of emotions and feelings he’s not had before.
This whimsical and light-headed story is off to a good start and full of promise! It just has that comfortable and uplifting feeling of sitting by a warm window while the sun’s rays penetrate the glass. It’s a cozy and warm read but one that implores you to maybe think outside the box. To sit back, relax and daydream about the future, feelings, relationships, and of course robots! Perillo does a nice job of introducing us to the central character and robot citizen Jojo. He’s a hard working bot with a gentle soul and an innocent personality that invokes a bit of The Jetsons and Wall-E. We are sucked in almost instantly by his kindness and positivity. It’s something we all wish we had so freely in our own lives so it’s nice to be able to take this journey without any anxiety, tension, or fear that some wicked or horrible is just around the corner. It’s just not that kind of book! Adding Cardoselli’s trademark brand of art to the mix creates the perfect canvas for this all to unfold. His bright, playful and detailed art helps to bring Jojo and his world to life with larger than life city backdrops and lush full page splashes. You feel literally immersed in the story and Jojo’s life. It’s a wonderful beginning to what looks like will be a nice reprieve from the usual comic fare now on shelves. If you are looking for something light and easy to read that involves a little romance and life. Look no further!
