MOON MAN #1 Review – The whole team knocked it out of the park (Mescudi, Higgins, Locati, Monti) Image Comics

Thanks to Image for the review copy!

Superstar musician Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi along with acclaimed writer Kyle Higgins bring us a sci-fi drama for the ages about a failed Moon mission and the circumstances surrounding it. Looking to get his life back on track Ramon quickly realizes there was so much more that occurred during that failed trip to the moon and the time he appears to have lost may hold the secret to everything in his life that’s about to change, forever.

This is a very unique offering from one of pop culture’s most inventive and imaginative minds. If you’ve listened to Kid Cudi’s music at all prior you know that he’s no stranger to superheroes, space exploration, or sci-fi in general. His music has always had an otherworldly vibe and creative dynamic that sets him apart from all of the rest. It’s no surprise then that he’s able to showcase his strengths as a writer in this medium so masterfully. Having a partner in crime with credentials like Higgins only adds to the star-power of this book. Higgins has been on fire with Image as of late with various books which are all part of his Massive-Verse. Mescudi and Higgins make for a compelling story that feels a little like a less scary The Astronaut’s Wife but with a superhero twist. Clearly something has come back with Ramon our protagonist but we’re not quite sure how or what yet. Details that I’m sure will be divulged in coming issues. Together though, they have delivered an interesting premise to what I think has a lot of potential for some big ideas moving forward. I also really enjoyed the art! It’s unique and detailed. Locati allows plenty of room and endless possibilities for Monti to work with his also brilliant coloring. The colors explode on the pages much like a chemical reaction and it’s a real assault on your senses. There is really a lot to absorb here but I think the whole team knocked it out of the park. I look forward to seeing how this story progresses in the next issue.

My rating – 9/10 Excellent!
