Thanks to Image Comics for the review copy!

Generally I like Chris Condon’s work. That Texas Blood is a great piece of work but this
new series just doesn’t pull me in. Story is simple enough. Rogue general orders nuclear
test on a group of soldiers to bring about a new world. Soldiers are turned into monsters.
Monsters attack. That’s pretty much it. There may be lots more to come but from the first
issue that’s the whole book.
The art is black and white and somewhat abstract and blocky to convey the horror and
make the reader feel like you’re living in a nuclear fallout. It works in terms of setting the
mood but is terrible for actually understanding who the characters are.
Maybe I’m judging a first issue too harshly and there’s more to come that will elevate this
beyond a typical zombie story but if I had to make a choice to decide whether this goes on
my pull list based on only this issue, it would be a pass.
My review score: 5/10
