If you turn the corner in any small town or big city street, you might just find yourself on Hyde Street. If you have been reading the first seven issues of the main title, you will know that it focuses on Hyde Street’s residents; referred to as its denizens. The cast of these characters that we have met thus far includes Mr. X-ray and Pranky the boy scout. We have also met Miss Goodbody, who first appeared in last year’s companion one-shot issue called It Happened On Hyde Street Devour. This issue put the spotlight on visitors to Hyde Street with a creepy story about body image. Now that talented creative team of writer Maytal Zchut and artist Leila Leiz are back, joined by colorist Alex Sinclair, and letterer Rob Leigh, to bring us the five issue miniseries, Sisterhood A Hyde Street Story.
Sisterhood is the story of two best friends, Sophie and Violet. They go from childhood friends to now roommates in college. The friendship is broken when Violet dies in a horrible sorority hazing accident. This leads Sophie to visit Sister Hood, a fortune teller and denizen of Hyde Street, who made her first appearance in Hyde Street #5. Sophie’s desire to see her friend again sets the stage for the rest of the series where presumably they will get revenge for the cause and cover up of Violet’s death.
While Devour was an amazing beginning for this creative team, they have really hit their stride with Sisterhood. The story flows incredibly well and the end of issue one leaves you craving for more. There is so much artistic detail in these pages that you could spend days looking through it. There may even be easter eggs to go back and find.
